The Economics of Comfort
After a particularly hectic and stifling day, nothing really beats having a retreat of sorts. And the anticipation for the said ‘retreat’ goes up a notch when it’s in the comfort of your own home, or yard, for that matter. Nobody ever said that relaxation outdoors isn’t possible. As a matter of fact, that’s exactly what patio furniture is for – chaise lounges for the weary legs and Adirondacks for just about the same purpose.
If you are looking for inexpensive patio furniture, the choices you would most likely be faced with are plastic, aluminum, pine and teak. Plastic and aluminum are the cheapest among those. They are both lightweight and virtually low-maintenance. They don’t need to be treated with solutions like you would for wood. They don’t rot, although plastic can get brittle when exposed to too much sun. They may not have a big plus in the looks department but you would be surprised that there are aluminum patio furniture that looks good enough.
Wood is generally expensive, especially the hardwood kind. However, there are cheaper options, such as pine and teak. You would notice that the cheapest wood furniture in the market is usually made of pine. The problem is that pine rather susceptible to rot and insect damage, unless you treat it regularly and apply varnish for waterproofing; only the varnish may crack from too much exposure to the sun. It is still best if you just store in someplace when not in use to keep it from the sun.
One of the best inexpensive patio furniture is that which is made of teak. They are highly resistant to weathering and insect damage. They also have a beautiful finish and you won’t need to apply varnish if you want a silvery finish later on. The trees take time to grow though so you might not find them in abundance in your local stores.
The best way to look for inexpensive patio furniture is by keeping track of sales, particularly end-of-product-line and end-of-season sales. Companies are eager to sell these products at a big discount to make way for newer models. There are also plenty of options online and it is recommended that you subscribe to the mailing list of furniture vendors so that you’ll know first-hand when there is an upcoming sale. When comfort and budget is your key considerations, you may well set just set aside following trends.
Now, while it is true that furniture does come with hefty price tags; that isn’t always the case. Inexpensive patio furniture is available in the market. You just have to know what to look for.
